An rare ‘Focus’ chair designed by A. Belokopytoff for Norwegian manufacturer Westnofa in the 1950s.
Formed from a single moulded, teak veneered plywood shell and raised on a slender chrome-plated steel frame, the chair is a wonderful example of post-war Scandinavian design. The sweeping organic lines and floating seat create a striking sculptural presence from every angle whilst remaining surprisingly light and elegant.
Unlike many surviving examples, this chair remains in remarkably good original condition. The plywood shell retains a rich patina developed over decades of use, with only minor age-related marks consistent with its age. The chrome frame is similarly well preserved, displaying only slight tarnishing and wear (see photos for detail).
The chair has not been over-restored or refinished, allowing its originality and history to remain intact.
A distinctive and increasingly hard-to-find piece of Norwegian modernism that works equally well as a lounge chair, occasional chair or statement design object.
