A beautifully sculptural C2 ‘Jason’ chair, designed by Carl Jacobs for British manufacturer Kandya. Made from a unique method of folded beech plywood on a solid beech frame, its continuous curved shell sweeps around to form the seat and back, while the slender splayed legs give the chair its distinctive lightness.
This is the original wooden-legged C2 version, presented in its natural beech finish and retaining the rarer white Kandya maker’s label from earlier models, together with remnants of the original REGD DESIGN 871266 transfer. It remains in very good vintage condition, with the surface sympathetically cleaned and lightly refreshed while retaining its original character and patina.
Designed in 1950–51, the Jason became one of Kandya’s most recognisable post-war designs. In 1952, 300 examples were installed in the Thameside Restaurant on the site of the previous year’s Festival of Britain, helping establish the chair as an important piece of early British post-war design.
A striking and increasingly collectible chair that works equally well as an occasional chair, desk chair or standalone statement piece.
