An early Ekornes “Montana” lounge chair, produced in Norway in the 1970s. This example retains the solid teak frame construction, serpentine spring seat support and deeply stitched black leather upholstery characteristic of Ekornes’ earlier production period.
The chair combines substantial rounded teak arms with generously padded leather cushions, creating a form that is both sculptural and exceptionally comfortable. The pronounced stitched detailing across the seat and back is typical of 1970s Ekornes design, before the cleaner, more minimal aesthetic of later decades.
The leather remains in excellent vintage condition, showing minor, natural creasing but no cracks, splits or structural issues. It has been professionally deep-cleaned and conditioned. The teak frame retains its original patina with light age-related marks to the arm tops, consistent with careful use. The wood has been lightly refreshed to nourish and enhance the grain while preserving its character.
A well-preserved Norwegian design classic from Ekornes’ formative years.
